Our First Hardscaping Project!

I'm so excited to announce the completion of our very first hardscaping project! And what a success it was.....

We spent a lot of time drawing up a plan since it was our first! Hand drawing the boundaries of the space, taking away the hard lines and adding different hardscaping textures to create an ergonomic feel. We had to take into consideration the clients stipulations, such as a natural privacy fence and a space to relax and feel at one with nature; even in the midst of the city.

We started out with a gravel-filled rectangle and turned it into a welcoming shade garden. Here are the steps we took to achieve the goal.

  • Rearranged gravel, moving most of it to the center and adding metal siding to create more a natural feel.

  • Took out weed blocker so the plants have a better chance of surviving.

  • Irrigation System: A simple drip line that we attached to the outdoor tap. This step allows for water conservation & ease of watering through the brutal summer months.

  • Added appropriate plants for the amount of light the space gets. We focused mostly on shade loving Texas native plants & shrubs. Adding a few

suitable Tropical plants for interest.

  • We are LOVING The Leopard Plant, also known as Farfugium japonicum.

Things we hope the owner adds:

  • Outdoor Seating: A tree swing, to conserve space and set the vibe.

  • Maybe some old tree stumps for others to sit and relax.

  • Tree Lights: to give the garden a magical glow at night.
